How each one plays by grade
Abeka Language runs 4 grades further than Shurley English. If you want one program to carry the subject for the long haul, plan on leaving Shurley English around grade 8 and choosing again.

Grades 1-12
Titles shift by grade: Language 1-3, God's Gift of Language A/B/C for grades 4-6, Grammar and Composition I-IV for grades 7-10, then the Handbook plus Workbooks V-VI for grades 11-12. Language C works as catch-up review for an older student.
Shurley English
Grades 1-8
Concepts repeat year to year, so you can begin at any level without going back to level 1, and combine close-in-age kids in one level.
