How it shifts by grade

Levels A and B are early and parent-intensive. C through E follow a weekly chunking, copywork, and dictation pattern on nonfiction passages. F shifts responsibility to the student and G is the most independent.

Additional notes

Uses printing, not cursive, by design. Dictation is scored by counting words spelled correctly in a ten-minute window, so the child ends on a win. The 2025 edition revised Levels C through G and is not compatible with older sets.
