How it shifts by grade

Parent-taught in PK-2 with the heaviest prep of the line, semi-independent by grades 4 and 5, and expected to be independent from grade 6 on. Homeschool parent support thins at grade 6 and again at 7 and 8, so plan an exit or a tutor there.

Additional notes

The strongest predictor of success is when you start, not how mathy the child is. Families who begin in the early grades do well, while those who switch in after second or third grade report a rough transition. Level 6 is a known difficulty wall. Budget for the separately sold drill and challenging-problem books, since the core program is light on both.
