How each one plays by grade
BJU Press Math
Grades K-12
K-6 is manipulative-heavy and parent-taught. Grade 7 up moves to a standard textbook students can work more independently. The online video course (DLO) changes the math entirely, with kids working mostly on their own, so involvement, independence, and screen time all shift toward digital if you choose it.
Math-U-See
Grades K-12
Parent sits alongside through Primer and Alpha, kids go mostly independent from mid-Beta, and the blocks fade out at Epsilon and Zeta. Pre-Algebra to Algebra 1 is the rough transition, and Demme publishes free bridge material for it.

Who BJU Press Math fits
Pairs a hands-on kid with a parent who doesn't mind teaching each lesson from a script, concepts before procedure. Parents juggling several children, wanting open-and-go, or chasing acceleration should look elsewhere or move to the online video course.

The usual landing spot for a kid who's hit a wall in math, and for parents who dread teaching it. Families with a mathy kid, families in states that test before sixth grade, and anyone who might put a child back in conventional school mid-elementary are the wrong fit for it.
